About Us

How, When & Where

Established in 1985 amid the rolling hills of England’s Yorkshire Dales and very near to the Lake District, Farfield Clothing Limited started manufacturing in a redundant weaving mill (Farfield Mill) near the market town of Sedbergh.

In 1999 after a charitable trust bought Farfield Mill,  we sympathetically converted and moved into what was the old British School building (it was actually a primary school until the 1950’s) in the centre of Sedbergh. We now run our design, production, administration and factory shop from this base.

From this small market town in Sedbergh we send our manufactured clothing all around the world and if you see someone wearing one of our design of jackets it can only have come from us.

Farfield Original and Tough Customer Ranges

Initially producing garments for children under our TOUGH CUSTOMER brand, we later developed the FARFIELD ORIGINAL label, an additional range for adults.

We work closely with one of the last remaining mills in Yorkshire and the fabric is made exclusively for our company and  we are always trying to work with different designs of fabric but always keeping to the core of our business, making warm reliable clothing that lasts for years.

Please note we are in the centre of Sedbergh (just up from the car park), and NOT at Farfield Mill, of which we have no connection.

Come and visit our factory shop in Sedbergh, where we also have a small second-hand book shop but unfortunately no coffee shop (complain to the YDNP for that).  The shop is just up the hill from the main (Joss Lane) car park and we also have plenty of parking just outside the shop, we also have wheelchair access for those who find it difficult.  As we say to all our customers, you may come as a visitor but leave as a friend, whether you buy anything or not, but one thing you can be sure about is that you are helping sustain manufacturing in rural areas in the north.

We also sell our jackets on ETSY and they go all over the world.
